How to Connect GMX to Klearbox

GMX requires an application-specific password for IMAP access — separate from your regular GMX login password. Set it up in your GMX security settings in about 2 minutes.

1

Sign in to GMX

Go to gmx.net and sign in with your credentials.

2

Enable two-factor authentication

Click "My Account" in the top right. Navigate to "Security" → "Two-Factor Authentication" and enable it if not already active. GMX requires 2FA before app passwords can be created.

3

Open App Passwords

Return to "Security" and click "App Passwords".

4

Create a new app password

Click "Create app password". Give it a name (e.g. "Klearbox") and confirm.

5

Copy the password

GMX shows the app password once. Copy it immediately — it will not be shown again.

6

Enter it in Klearbox

In Klearbox, select "GMX" as provider. Enter your @gmx.de, @gmx.net, or other GMX address and paste the app password.

Important: use the app password

  • Never share your app password — treat it like any other password
  • Klearbox stores it encrypted until you remove it from Settings or delete your account
  • Revoke it at any time under GMX → Security → App Passwords

Requirement: two-factor authentication

GMX requires two-factor authentication (2FA) to be active before app passwords can be created. If you don't see the "App Passwords" option, enable 2FA first under GMX Security settings.
