How to generate a Yahoo App Password

A Yahoo App Password is a 16-character token that gives Klearbox limited IMAP access to your mailbox — nothing more. Revoke it any time.

1

Sign in to Yahoo Mail

Go to mail.yahoo.com and sign in to your account.

2

Open Account Security settings

Click your profile icon in the top right corner, then click "Manage your account". In the navigation, find "Security" → "App passwords".

3

Select app type

Under "Select your app", choose "Other app" from the dropdown.

4

Name the app

In the "Enter your app name" field, type "Klearbox" (or any name you prefer — this is just a label for your reference).

5

Click Generate

Click "Generate password". Yahoo will display a 16-character app password.

6

Copy the password

Copy the 16-character password. It is shown only once — if you lose it, you will need to generate a new one.

7

Enter it in Klearbox

Paste the app password into the "Yahoo App Password" field in Klearbox's connect screen.

Important security note

  • Never share your App Password — treat it like a password
  • Klearbox stores it encrypted until you remove it from Settings or delete your account
  • You can revoke it at any time in Yahoo → Security → App passwords

Two-factor authentication requirement

Yahoo requires two-factor authentication (2FA) to be enabled before you can create App Passwords. If you don't see the "App passwords" option, enable 2FA in Yahoo Account Security first.
